Colorado Columbine

Since Coloradolady loves going to the mountains, trust she enjoys my Vintage Thingies Thursday today. There are many more great vintage things to be seen at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com.

This is a gorgeous vintage cup and saucer by Norcrest in the Columbine pattern. My sister is the owner of this set. It belonged to her mother-in-law. It dates back to the late 40s or 50s. It is hand painted and completely trimmed in gold. The pretty blue Columbines are the state flower of Colorado.

The Columbine flower started its journey to become the Colorado State flower back in 1891 when some Colorado school children voted the flower as their favorite. In 1899 a Colorado Women's Club, in Cripple Creek, discovered the flower had never been officially declared as the state flower. On April 4, 1899 the Columbine was approved as the state flower.

It is very pretty and unusual, being that it has feet! Makes me think of that awful school shooting. I guess this flower will be forever associated with it.

Haven't seen a columbine this time in CO, but many other beautiful wildflowers. That china cup is priceless. I bet your meme hostess loved this post!

The tea cup and the flowers are so beautiful.

Yes, both my coffee pots perk on a stove, too. :)
I am going tomorrow to Wal*Mart to get a new coffee maker, I think.

What a pretty cup and saucer. The painting on the saucer looks three dimensional.

Have not, out of the 100s of teacups we've had, seen this design. It is just gorgeous, LV. I have tons of Columbine in my gardens.

Thank you for your support this week, you mean a lot to me.

Have a beautiful weekend.

Hi LV, You might know I have not had internet for the past 4 days. Sigh. A bad storm took it out. It is fixed!

Your sister's cup and saucer is beautiful. I have never seen a columbine flower. They are so pretty. I really love your pics for Wednesday too.

I was just sitting here remembering when Suzanne asked everyone to remember your 80th birthday. I am so happy I know you LV. You are an inspiration to Bloggers.
Love, Jeanne

Thank you for including the last picture of the columbines! It was taken from a spot in front of the Maroon Bells, the peaks in the distance. We camped there on our honeymoon, 33 years ago yesterday. Bless you, LV, for being so computer literate. I hope to be as interested in learning when I "grow up"! Thanks for your visit to my blog. *hugs*k
