REDnesday

Sorry I missed last weeks REDnesday with Sue at http://suelovescherries.blogspot.com. I was having a celebration for my birthday on that day. Looking forward to seeing what kind of REDS will show up today.

If you are a Coca-Cola collector, I found the place for you. Trust you enjoy seeing such a variety of things from a local antique shop.

Blue Monday

I am happy to be participating again in Sally's http://smilingsally.blogspot.com Blue Monday. Start your week off right, and see some of the truly amazing blues featured by her many friends.

This is a stained glass window I saw in a department store. I thought it was so neat with just the right touch of blue.

Pink Saturday Miracle Party

Today is to be a very special Pink Saturday. Beverly at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog has suggested we share some inspiring event we experienced. I debated on what to share. I am a firm believer, however, that things happen for a reason.

Also, even if you are not participating in Pink Saturday, please visit these sights and share your comments. For every comment, a $1 will be donated to this worthy cause.

Be sure to give your thanks to Guidepost for sponsoring a great blessing to Colette Gauthier's recovery. They do wonderful "Miracles Makeovers".

My blessing for today came from a complete stranger.

The past Saturday, my sister and I were out at an antique mall having lunch at their tea room. After lunch, we browsed around and she purchased something. While she was getting checked out, I found a bench and waited for her. While waiting, a man and lady stood near by in conversation, and me taking it all in. They were discussing various things and when he left, the lady asked if he needed shots. He said no and she wished him well. The word "shots" aroused my curiosity. I wondered where he might be going that required shots in the first place. I just up and asked her. The gentlemen was her cousin and on his way to Honduras. Some years ago, he lost his wife from cancer. They shared a full life together. To fill a void, he went to Honduras and bought a building and remodeled it.

Even though he lost the love of his life, he wanted to do something that could put love back into the lives of others.

All his time and energy now goes into this home for unwed mothers that have been assaulted by family members. At some point in our lives we will all experience pain and sorrow. It is how we cope with it that is important. Here is a gentlemen that I am sure felt his life would never be the same. He could have given up and do nothing. Instead he picked up the pieces of his life and is doing great things with it. No matter what adversities we face along life's way, with the right attitude, we can turn it into something positive. The work this man is doing in Honduras will be a great blessing to so many. How wonderful it would be if there were more people like this.

"A life lived well is more precious than a life lived long".

Skilled Vintage Hands - No 4

Regretfully, Coloradolady, our hostess for today's Vintage Thingies Thursday, is on a blog "time out". There will still be plenty of great vintage post to be seen at http://coloradolady.blogspot.

My vintage post for the past three weeks have featured some of the wood working skills of my late father-in-law. Today's edition is the end of that series. Trust there was something along the way that was of interest.

More of his unique, original birdhouses.

MY DAY, MY WAY - August 25, 1929

LV's

Hello blogging friends. This is your special invitation to my 81st birthday party. No presents please, your comment is the best present of all.

For easier reading, I am listing the things shown on the above image that happened in 1929 besides me being born.
1. Seeing eye dog organization formed.
2. First academy awards are announced.
3. New York stock market crashed.
4. First public demonstration of color TV.
5. Comic book character, TinTin is created by Herge.
6. Edwin Hubble discovers the universe is expanding.

Three months old - November 1929.

I was told that mother cried when she saw me at birth. She probably was expecting a prettier baby. Since I was the first, I am sure she was looking for the perfect one. Over the years, I have been asked numerous times where my name came from. I was never interested enough when younger to ask. I assumed I came into the world screaming, and she named me (the voice)LaVoice. There are a lot of things I would like to know, but I waited too late to ask.

After a short trip back in time, each of you pick a cake and celebrate.

Obituary of SOMEONE ELSE

I dare say there are very few of us that has not said, Let Someone Else do it. I am guilty and could have done more when needed. There are excuses we make that are just that - excuses.

SOMEONE ELSE
I know that all of you were saddened to learn this week of the death of "Someone Else".

Someone's passing created a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years, and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than the normal person's share of the work. Whenever something was needed, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results. The first name that would come up when help was needed, "let Someone Else do it". It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the largest giver when called on.

Someone Else was a wonderful person, sometimes appearing super-human, but a person can only do so much. Were the truth known, everyone expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone. We wonder what we are going to do. Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did?

Remember, we cannot depend on Someone Else anymore.

Blue Monday

It is Blue Monday time once again with Sally at http://smilingsally.blogspot.com. Where did last Blue Monday ago so fast?

A lovely white, Southern Magnolia bloom with a bright blue sky background.

A bunch of happy tourist riding in a blue seated bus. I am not a part of this group, but would like to have been.

Swedish Pink Saturday

Welcome to Pink Saturday with Beverly at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog.

One of my special friends from Sweden, Elisabeth, at http://petiteyekiss.blogspot.com sent me this lovely pink handmade brooch.

This little tag was attached showing the creator of this crochet brooch. Be sure to check her blog at http://angelpearls.blogspot.com. She does excellent work and has much more to share with us.

This is a copy of the nice letter Elisabeth sent with the gift. As you can see, they were leaving for vacation. A long the way she would send me a post card. I received today this pretty card from her travels somewhere in Sweden.

As you can see, I even kept the envelope the brooch came in. I was fascinated by the stamps on it. I found them to be so interesting.

Skilled Vintage Hands No.3

Vintage Thingies Thursday has arrived again. However, this time without Coloradolady at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com. As most of you know, she is taking a little time off from the blog world. We must not let her down, and show her we can do our vintage thingies anyway.

I posted this photo on post No.1 of the this series. I added my father-in-law again this week to show the tower he is standing by in the picture is the same one on my first photo. Bear in mind, these are his original creations. Seems he liked the color red. People came from all around to buy these birdhouses. To my knowledge, none of them were left in the family.

Do not miss next week's showing. It is the last in a series of four. You will see more of the great birdhouses he designed.
