Music Pink Saturday

This week our hostess, Beverly, at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog, suggest we feature our favorite music for Pink Saturday. This will be a lot easier for me than movies for last week.

Since I am a country girl, I naturally enjoy country music. I really appreciate what we heard years ago as opposed to some of it today. However, I do have favorites of the artist today. To me, Carrie Underwood's "Let Jesus Take The Wheel" is a great song.

Back when Elvis performed was a great time frame.

It was so much fun to drop a coin in the jukebox and select your favorite tune. Some of the Christmas songs I picked would be "The First Noel, "Blue Christmas" and Silent Night" all by Elvis of course.

There is nothing prettier to me than piano music. I have always wished I could play. The lady in our church each Sunday just makes your skin crawl with her playing.

I love most hymns, but my favorites are: "How Great Thy Art", Love Lifted Me" and "When He Was On The Cross, I was On His Mind".

Elvis was not the only star back in my young days I liked really well. I thought Dean Martin was just the best for his style of singing. Especially, "Let It Snow" and "Silver Bells".

Happy Pink Saturday and Happy Holidays, dear LaVoice.

I love all of your favorites, too. My mother has an Elvis Christmas cd, and she has always loved him. I love all of the traditional holiday hymns and tunes.

Since you love piano music have you ever listened to George Winston or John Tesh? both lovely pianists...
Also, Carrie Unerwood is one of my favorite singers...good taste you go there my dear!

LV,
I too love the songs you mentioned. My Dad was a big Dean Martin fan and I grew up listening to many of his songs and I especially love the Christmas ones he sang! Thanks for reminding me of some great memories!!

Merry Christmas,
Debbie

Hi LV, I am old enough to ditto everything you said. You have very good taste in singers and in songs. Love Lifted Me has always been one of the top on my list of hymns. Gerry

Hi LV.

I'm not a big Elvis fan (probably because he passed on the day after my Mother), but I enjoyed your Pink Saturday post very much.

I hope you are enjoying every moment of this holiday season.

Have a great Pink Weekend,

Cathy

I'm not that into Elvis, but Carrie Underwood sings beautifully. I like "older" country music too. Anything by Patsy Cline and Crystal Gayle is fine for me.

This reminds me that my grandmother recently told me she has some Elvis dolls she wants me to research to see how much they are worth. I'm just kind of shocked that I know someone who collects that stuff.....we have never seen it displayed in all these years.

However my mom liked Elvis and like you she wishes she knew how to play the piano. She knows enough to play a few hymns, but not to really play. As much as she dreammed to have a daughter that played, that was her dream, not mine. I hated it and quit after a few years.

I love that song by Carrie too.

Pure nostalgia - love all your song mentions! Also, Mario Lanza singing O Holy Night - I put a Mixpod player on the blog with a load of different songs on it (only plays when you click on it so it doesn't freeze or slow the blog) plus a really wintry background set.

It's really snowing hard as I type (10.43am Saturday morning) so looks just like my blog outside the window! Happy Pink Saturday, LV.

Great song choices. I love Elvis music too. I remember as a child begging for money to drop in the juke box. Wonder why we don't see those any more? It was such fun.
Happy PS!

I have to say, LOVE Elvis! And I have a Dean Martin story for you. In the early 1990's, I was 21 years old, and attended a wedding with my dad. I kept saying to him that the man at the other table looked exactly like Dean Martin to me. He kept saying things like, Sure, Right, OK sweetie ... well, dinner finished and all of a sudden, the band announces with a big grin: "Someone very special would like to sing a song for you all." And yes, it WAS Dean Martin!

Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Those days of the juke box were some of the happiest to me. I always wished I could play the piano. My two oldest grand daughters are taking lessons and doing very well. If I had room for a piano in my house, you can bet I would be taking lessons right along side of them. Merry Christmas to you and yours LV.

Just dropping in to wish you the happiest of this Holiday Season---I hope your days are bright and warm and that you enjoy all the blessings of this wonderful time.

Loved the Pink Caddy---I actually SAW him driving it once, and I think the picture is a little bit of an anachronism---he'd moved on to quite a few later models before he took up that white jumpsuit.

The funniest part was that my friend with me was disappointed in the color, which we'd heard so much about. I can remember plainly that she said, "Couldn't he afford something better than that old PANTY pink?" We all thought it was hilarious.

Thanks for the fun memory, and Happy Christmas!!

Hiya LV,
Just noticed you stopped by the other week.
I've come to wish you a happy mid-winter.
And this Elvis picture reminded me that we had one of those. C. Fleetwood '57 it was. Sadly, it never occurred to us to paint it pink. If only.... it would have been even greater fun. We drove through Europe in it as well, and getting it through the narrow canal sides of Amsterdam required a professional chauffeur :-)
