Vintage Thingies Thursday

Coloradolady has the best Vintage Thingies each Thursday. You are really missing out if you do not check them out at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com.
It is hard to believe this is a lamp. I spotted it in an antique mall. Someone was creative. The base is a vintage sausage grinder with shade from an old strainer. Just goes to show, there is a use far most everything.
This is a window curtain that I bought at an estate sale. The lady had made it for a small window in her dining area. It was not priced. They had not planned on selling, but finally agreed to let it go. I have no window it fits, but was just drawn to it. I had not seen any embroidery work used as a curtain. She had each panel tied back with a ribbon that matched her embroidery. Looked very nice.

Pretty! A neighbor did that same embroidery design on a set of pillowcases that she gave me for a wedding present in 1966. I still have the pillowcases - they were too pretty to use!

That lamp would be quite a conversation starter!! I have not seen any embroidered curtains, either. But I have seen many embroidered doilies and tablecloths.

That embroidery is so pretty. I actually have a table cloth that I have on my kitchen table that is very similar but whoever stitched it also combined some applique in with it. It is one of my favorites.

I haven't seen anything with that lovely old-fashioned embroidery for so long! Thanks for sharing. Could you use them as wall hangings? Our house (the one we sold when we started RVing) had a couple of long narrow wall spaces between doors where one of these would have been beautiful.

i love the lamp! Wouldn't it look great in a kitchen? I have two lamps in my quilting studio that had been made from sad irons! I don't know how old they are, but I just had to have them. I bought them separately, a few years apart, from two different places.

That meat grinder strainer lamp is a HOOT!!! I'd love to see it with the light turned on.

When our first child was born I embroidered Tweety Bird on white curtain panels for her bedroom window. I think I threw them away later - - - - bad choice after all that WORK!!!

Hi lovely lady.
Your window curtain that you purchased from a estate sale is Beautiful. My Mom had some just like yours from her Mom. My Mom toll me she would do them in the Kitchen with her family at the Kitchen table. I have her Basket now with all her floss/needles This is my Treasure now. Thanks so much for your sweet comments on my Spring Tablescape.
I hope you have a wonderful week with your family.

It's amazing what some folks will make into a lamp. The 'Strainer Shade' is hilarious! I love this embroidery pattern...my Mom made pillow cases much like your pattern on the curtains. You need a FAUX window!
