Vintage Thingies Thursday/1948 Graducation

It is vintage graduation time with Coloradolady. Time is fleeting by much too fast for me. This graduation was 62 years ago.

My senior class ring. I have hardly worn it so it looks like a new one.

The merchants in our little town gave each senior a little cedar chest like this. I still have mine and my husband's.

This a Lane cedar chest that my folks gave me upon graduation.

I had the leading lady part in our senior play.

I even was in the running for football queen. The winner was determined by how much money you could raise for the school. A country girl could hardly compete with the city girls. I did not win, but came in third which was not too bad under the circumstances. I was a member of the queen's court which thrilled me.

Best wishes to all the graduates whoever and wherever you are.

The picture on the program is very pretty. I have a few things left from high school, but nothing like yours.

These are so nice to see today! Your Lane chest still looks new. Time sure does fly, but high school memories are always special.

I received a small cedar chest just like yours 32 years ago. My daughter received one exactly like it when she graduated 19 years ago. I wonder if senior girls are still receiving them somewhere?

I love that story. I still have my little Lane Cedar Chest that I got from our local furniture store for graduation too. Thanks for sharing, Vicky

What a wonderful post! It must have brought back sweet memories of your past.

I have a little cedar chest like yours. I actually got mine from an antique dealer.

I'm visiting from Coloradolady. Please stop by my cottage for a visit and peek at the details for the three new linky parties I'm starting up the first week of June.

Have a terrific Memorial weekend!

You are the sweetest lady. I am in awe of you doing this at 80 years old. I am visiting from Dena's blog where you gave her an award.
It is so nice to meet you. I have written a story on my little hope chest in a past post. I never had a big one. You have some wonderful treasures.

How lovely, thanks for sharing with us- your school ring is beautiful! I have mine from my senior year- isn't odd how we couldn't wait to be old enough to get the rings and how quickly after graduation they found their way into a storage box somewhere? I think it's wonderful you've saved such great memories from your teenage years. Happy VTT!

One of the furniture stores here in Phoenix gave the little boxes away... I think I still have mine... That was in '81. I'm pretty sure they aren't in business any more. You have a lovely collection. Sweet memories!

Oh, wow! I have the same little Lane chest! It was given to me for my high school graduation by our local Lane furniture store. I didn't realize this was a tradition. I got mine in the 1980s. I very glad you and the other commenters shared this info.

What very special memories to share! I love all the pictures, but the ring is so very adorable - why not wear it every now and then? I am sure it will invite very interesting conversations!

Hi LV, I am so glad I found your blog. What a wonderful post today and so proud to find a beautiful vintage lady, like myself, blogging and having a great time. The little hope chest is such an appropriate little graduation gift. I had a full sized one too but it was in my basement and got flooded. Thanks for stopping by. Blessings

LV,

I have the exact same lane cedar chests!! Both of them!! The mini one I bought at a yard sale for $1.00 and the big one is identical to my mother's which I have. It is not in the original finish as my Dad redid it in a white antiqued finish to match the bedroom set my parent's had at the time!

I have my Mom's Cedar Chest at the foot of my bed with linen stored in it!

My mom has a stainless steel spoon from a flatware maker in her hometown. Nothing like this in my hometown - the big company in town made industrial electrical transformers! Love the little chest.

How ironic that I was remembering that I graduated 39 years ago tomorrow! I still have my tassel and class ring. Maybe next week I'll post mine.

It's so much fun to read that you enjoyed acting! (I have a program or two from my dad's brother who acted a bit in school too.) How exciting to have been in the Queen's Court!

Happy VTT,
