Outdoor Wednesday

Please join me for an Outdoor Wednesday with Susan at http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com. Today my feature involves a few details about one of my favorite plants.

SWEET MOCK ORANGE or ENGLISH DOGWOOD

This is an old fashioned shrub. It has long, arching branches with rich green leaves covered with white flowers in the spring as if covered with twinkling lights.

The fragrance from the flowers will scent your whole yard. The white blooms last for several weeks. They are a popular flower for weddings.

After rain or high wind, this is what happens to the sweet little flowers. It looks a light snow has fallen, but they still smell nice.

I was blessed with this great plant about four years ago. It was just a tiny plant. My niece, Coloradolay, ordered them off the internet. Hers went to glory, and you can see what happened to mine. I love it and so thankful it has survived for me.

Thank you for your kind comments! I also wish I could smell this flower, I will have to try and locate it at the garden centers. I love heavily scented bushes! It really is very large! So glad yours survived, it's beautiful!

We have a mock orange plant here but it isn't like that one. Ours has tiny flowers and I use it in our hedges. Yours is beautiful with those big flowers.

Best wishes and happy Wednesday!
Natasha.

That is a beautiful bush! I wonder If it would grow in our zone 5. There's nothing like the scent filling the yard and house. Happy Outdoor Wed.

Such lovely flowers. It's too bad we don't have smell-o-blogs. I'm sure the air is sweet around your house.
