Vintage Thingies Thursday - Mother's Day Special

Since this the last Thursday before mother's day, I am featuring it for Coloradolady and her other VTT participates.

MAY ALL THE MOTHERS HAVE A SPECIAL BLESSED DAY.

The force behind Mother's Day was Anna Jarvis. She organized it in Virginia and Philadelphia on May 10, 1908. As the annual celebration became popular around the country, Ms. Jarvis asked members of Congress to set aside a day to honor mothers. In 1914, Congress designated the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.

These are vintage mother's day cards from the 50s and 60s. These were the last two I gave her. We lost her much too soon in 1961.

My grandmother often thought I was my mother as I got older when I went to visit. This is the two of us in much, much younger times.

After I lost my mother, I turned to my grandmother. She became mother and grand mother. She was one of greatest. I seem to have have more memories of her than my mother. She wanted to live to be 100 and be on TV. I assured her I would see that it happened. Unfortunately, she did not make it. This is the sweet lady at 97. She passed away at 98.

You look just like your mom. My grandmother made it to 97, almost 98. I sure wish she was still here. I guess they are in a way because we keep on remembering them.

Hi LV!
I don't think we celebrate Mother´s Day, same weekend as in US, but I am not what weekend it is.
If I am not on duty - as I am the 3rd weekend a month - my husband and my children use to eat something yummie, but we don't celebrate it so much, and my own mother and my mother-in-law don't celebrate it at all.
Nice story, with vintage cards and photos you are showing!
Have a happy weekend!
Best wishes,
AnnA

What a lovely tribute to both your Mother and your grandmother! Unfortunately, I grew up without grandparents as all of them were deceased by the time I was 2. You are very lucky to have such wonderful memories of your precious grandmother!
And you look very much like your mother!

There is nothing more precious than our time with our mother. I have always been very close to my mother and I dread the day when she is no longer here. The cards are great memory.
