Vintage Quilts

Coloradolady is the quilt maker. I just look, drool and then buy. I have several vintage and new. I use most of mine like a bed spread. I have one or two I sleep under, but not many. For many more fascinating vintage things, go to http://coloradolady.blogspot.com.

A preview of a few of my vintage quilts.

These are all hand pieced and hand quilted.

So much work these must have taken! I think the prettiest is the butterfly one, I have never seen a butterfly quilt, so unusual and so much more work involved!

Wow! Great quilts. I have one that my grandmother pieced. It has material from three generations of dresses, my great-grandmother, grandmother and mother. I treasure it.

All of your quilts are lovely. I love all vintage quilts. I never saw a butterfly design.
I have a book of the quilt designs of the civil war when slaves were traveling underground to the north. The quilt designs were messages telling slaves where to go and they would hang them on the line. Clever, huh?

Wonderful quilts! Alas, I don't have many pretty quilts, but certainly admire them!

How very charming and lovely!

The butterfly one is simply spectacular, and though the picture will enlarge UP three times, I still cannot tell the method. Is is embroidery or pieced fabric? Can you imagine the DAYS and months it must have taken.

I always imagine getting the family out for the day, the breakfast dishes done, and a pot of something simmering on the stove, before sitting down to the quilting-frame. There was one on little pulleys in the ceiling of the "spare" bedroom of the first house we lived in when I was first married.

I'm so glad that you keep them actually out on the beds to enjoy looking at. One of ours is board-tucked just beneath the ceiling on our bedroom wall, and I enjoy seeing it every morning.

These are beautiful quilts, LV.
I, for some reason, have always been partial to the 9 patch..yours is very pretty.

I've made a few quilts but all on my machine. I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to hand quilt..and..at this stage of my life, I don't even WANT to know. Hahaa

Gorgeous, LV... Hand-quilted is something you rarely see anymore... Quilters are using those machines now...

I love them all.. If you ever want to sell one, keep me in mind. I absolutely love old quilts.

I have never seen the butterfly one before. Gorgeous.
Hugs,
Betsy

You've got some beautiful vintage quilts. I don't think I could pick out a favorite.

You can tell that a couple of them are scrap quilts, as the backgrounds don't all match each other...
I love the butterflies! Are they appliqued?

Hi LV, your quilts are so wonderful. They are all so different and the thing I like the most is they are all hand pieced and quilted. The last one you shared is so colorful and pretty I love the butterflies too.
Thank you for sharing them today.
