Vintage Sunbonnet Sue

Today's Vintage Thingies Thursday with Coloradolady is dedicated entirely to one of the best blogging friends ever. CC was special in more ways than one. She really had this thing for Sunbonnet Sue patterns or anything associated with Sunbonnet Sue. I am sure she is enjoying her Lace "N" Ribbon Roses. No doubt she and Sunbonnet Sue will be doing her "happy dance" knowing so many cared about her.

This is a vintage Sunbonnet Sue quilt, handmade and hand quilted, I was fortunate enough to keep from a family estate. I have several vintage and new quilts, but the older ones are my favorites. To realize some dear lady sat for hours with the patience of Job putting them together stitch by stitch.

CC and Sunbonnet Sue's door of life is now closed. PEACE!

How precious. I made one totally by hand for my daughter when she was about 5 years old and she is now 47. Each time I go to visit her I say I am going to photograph it, and then I forget. The one you have is lovely.

Hugs,
Genie

I love your quilt. I have an old Sunbonnet thing I found when searching through piles of rags. Maybe I can clean it up.

How sweet. My aunt made a quilt for my boys that had one square with a character in a bonnet that looked nearly like that (it was bo-peep...the rest of the squares had other nursery rhyme characters). She's gone now, and I treasure that quilt.

Such a sweet tribute to CC.

I am in love with your pretty quilt. My mom made quilts and I have a couple of them. Most likely you've seen the one that hangs in my dining room...it's in a lot of my photos of that room.

Regarding the boy that got drunk and lost and tore up my backyard...I am hoping and praying that he doesn't drink much...he says he doesn't. This was a party and he drank too much, thought he was at HIS house and the doors were locked..in his drunken stuper, he got mad and started banging patio furniture around.
The police hauled his little butt off to jail where he spent 2 days.
He is fixing everything he tore up..and he needs prayers that he won't ever get that out of control again.
hugs, bj
Oh, and did you know you have word verification on??

What a nice tribute to CC. That quilt is so pretty. My neighbor used to make that pattern quite a bit - I think she was making one for each grandchild. I always remember it fondly.

I am a sunbonnet sue fan, too. It's uncanny, the resemblence your quilt has to one that I picked up at a flea market. The sue pattern is the same, as well as, the green & pink sashing and cornerposts. I wonder if it was a printed pattern in a magazine.
