A Star Pink Saturday

I believe this is the first time I am not sharing one thing pink with Beverly and friends. As you know, our hostess is allowing us to feature other things at this time.  I am sure if you visit http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog there will be some nice pinks.

Recently a touring display showcasing hundreds of items that belonged to this popular actress, Shirley Temple, was in town.  This is a very small portion of the things they had on display.

Different dresses worn in events and movies throughout her career.

She cherished this custom-made leather saddle given to her by Joseph Schenk, co-founder of Fox Studios, for her horse,Spunky.

This is a child sized racing car given to her by close friend and co-star, "Bojangles" Robinson.
This is one of her most recognizable movie outfits in the 1934 film," Stand Up and Cheer".

Shirley Temple's mother saved everything form her legendary 1930's career. She is the reason one of the most remarkable collections of movie memorabilia, all of it in mint condition, exists today. The tour has ended and they had an auction this month for some of her collection. Since we both were born in the depression time, I have always loved and respected her for what she did with her life. Material things can disappear, but memories are forever.

she was before my time, but it looks like a good collection of memorabilia.

She was a little before my time, too, but I have watched all of her movies and I think she was a charming child actress.

I love your post - since I know who Shirley is but also count her before my time it is nice getting to know a little piece of acting history!

I love your quote as well!

Have a wonderful weekend, LV, and thank you for always stopping by and leaving a sweet note each week! :-)

She was a child star who survived and made something wonderful of her life after stardom. Her mother must have done more right besides saving her outfits and memories! She was raised well!

Oh how fun! I LOVED Shirley Temple movies as I was growing up - especially the musicals. Thanks for the lovely memories for this Pink Saturday.

What a fun time that had to have been, reliving all those old Shirley Temple memories while viewing the collection. I, too, am a baby from the Depression. People then learned how to survive!

I was trying to recall if she was still alive, but I see she passed away last year.

Dearest LV.,
Yes, that was one person that lived a different life during the Depression Years.
My husband too is from that era and he recalls his childhood. Even I remember post WWII we had no wealth. That all changed in 1960 and I'm afraid that the last generations hardly understand what life used to be like.
Indeed, memories stay with us forever and make a fine cushion for old age.
Hugs,
Mariette

This is one of your very best posts, dear LV. Sorry I am here late...we've been so busy for the last two weeks, trying to get our little building finished...we don't plan to take on another large project like this ever again..the killing heat is about to do us in. The pool sure is nice to jump into on those hot days.
I just watched an old S. Temple movie last week....she was so so adorable and so talented.
hugs to you...
