Vintage Thingies Thursday

Welcome to Vintage Thingies Thursday with Coloradolady.

You can be vintage in years, but still young at heart. Back when the Cabbage Kids were the boom, I thought I should have one. Not sure if I wanted it just for me or because it was hard to find and wanted by everyone else. Nevertheless, I bought this little preemie.

Her name is Leslie Jilly and she was born in 1985. She has never left her original box home. Just rested all these years on the top shelf of a closet.

Last weekend while estate sale shopping, I found this little darling. I had never seen one like it, caught my eye, and she was sold. I have as much use for it as a hole in my head. Sometimes, seniors do have their moments.

I researched her on the internet. She is a 1984 vintage Coleco Cabbage Patch Kids large telephone. One site listed it still in the box, unused, rare and priced for $189.95.
The phone stands 13" tall and the phone receiver rests on her arm. It is touch tone and complete with all wires. Works great. It is model 7911 and in very good condition. Another site listed her for $125.00 without the box and slightly used and rare. I paid $25.

Perhaps one day, these will make some little girl happy.

That phone is pure kitch; I love it! My cabbage patch is out of the box. I was too old for her, too, but had to get one when I saw it available because they were so hard to get!

I had never seen a Cabbage Patch phone before. It certainly will be a conversation piece and it sounds as if you got a bargain.

I never bought a real Cabbage Patch doll but I did buy a handmade doll in a similar style, and I have some Cabbage Patch postcards.

These are great! My daughter had a Cabbage Patch doll and loved it well. You had good instincts on the phone!

I sure do remember the craze they created, and the ridiculously long lines that parents stood in for hours because their kid just had to have one. This is turning into a nice investment for you.

I love the phone. I saw the Cabbage Patch Hospital years ago at the Chicago Gift Show when I was a buyer for a store! They were so cute when they first came out.... and the "hospital" was staffed with DRS. and nurses. xo Joan@anythiggeoshere

What a Brillant Senior Moment! I liked the Cabbage Patch Kids and a few years ago found some 80's darling ones for my Grands! They liked them about as much as they do cabbage. Good think I like Coleslaw and Cabbage Patch Kids....they now reside at my house as opposed to going in a Garage Sale!

You bought a Cabbage Patch doll for yourself. I think that's great..., and what a deal on that phone. It looks like no one ever used it.
Both are charming!fec

I've never seen the phone before but I would have loved one when I Was obsessed with all things Cabbage Kids. My poor mother went through hell trying to get my sister and I a cabbage kid from Santa that year of chaos. We were not dissapointed that Christmas morning :) Such good memories.

Isn't it funny what we buy and don't always know why. But sometimes they end up being our favorite.
