HALLOWEEN

Trust whatever you or your little ones do for Halloween, you will be safe. Hopefully by the time you are reading this, I will  be riding my "broom" off into the wild blue yonder.  Take care everyone. Back in a few days.

Recently my neighbor had to  have a  very large tree cut down.  As a result, a big stump was left. We got this wild idea and painted it for Halloween.  We live near a school zone. The children are really enjoying it.

Cancer Awareness Pink Saturday

Today is Pink Saturday with Beverly and friends.  She would love having you drop by http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog. She is entertaining us with a Cancer Awareness gathering.

A few days ago our local newspaper, the Star-Telegram, suggested if you or someone you knew was a cancer survivor, submit your story.  This was a special feature that they printed with several pages. There were so many touching stories.

Pink has  always been a good color, but the month of October you can find it everywhere .

Last but not least, I  am leaving each one that has had any experience with this terrible thing, a beautiful pink rose.

Forgotten Vintage Terms

My Vintage Thingie today with Coloradolady is about words that have quietly disappeared from our vocabulary. Many more interesting vintage things can be found at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com or click her button.

How long has it been since you heard someone mention the "running board"? When we were kids it was the highlight of a day to ride the "running board"..

Even the little ones enjoyed them as well..

These"fender skirts" were all the go back in the 50s.

Do not have photos to illustrate all the lost terms. Will share some I remember very well.

"Emergency brakes" changed to "parking brake" at some time.
======================================
"Foot feed" is now known as the "clutch".
===========================================================
"Store bought" was a bragging word as most things were
homemade. Of course, everything we buy today is from a store, we just never say it was "store bought".
 =====================================

"Coast to coast"' has become "worldwide".
==========================================================

"In a family way" or "expecting" means you are "pregnant". Years ago that word was considered too graphic.
======================================
People do not go the malls asking about "brassieres". They ask about "bras".
==========================================================

"Picture shows" are going to the "movies".
=====================================

"Percolator" is now your "coffee maker".
==========================================================

"Prayer meetings" changed to "bible study".
==========================================================

"Supper" will always be the name of the evening meal for me instead of "dinner".

REDnesday

Cherry World 1

Enjoy your day visiting with Sue and friends at http://suelovescherries.blogspot.com.

This Colman lantern has served me well.   On my side of the street, power was going off much too often.  After neighbors complained enough, they finally came out an found the problem.  I am almost afraid to say anything, but we have not had an outage for several months.

This little red latern takes you back a ways.  They are still around, but just not used as much.

Blue Monday

Smiling Sally

There is a lady that calls herself Smiling Sally that would be delighted if you stopped by and visit with her at http://smilingsally.blogspot.com.

A neat little blue shelf filled with vintage Morton's salt boxes.

If this little old lady were real, she would probably tell us she used Morton's Salt all her life. However, on the base of the figurine, she leaves you with these words.

"We can do no great things only small things with great love".  (Mother Teresa)

Touch of Autumn Pink Saturday

Beverly has suggested we share some autumn
scenes this week.  However, pink and fall colors go well together.  To see the best of both worlds go to http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog.

This is the way autumn blesses those  in Colorado.  I had the pleasure of being there a few years ago.

The way folks in Arkansas see autumn rowing in.

Fashion Show Vintage Thursday

Taking you  back in time for the latest fashion trends. Take a minute and stop by Coloradolady's Vintage Thingie for many interesting vintage finds.  She can be reached at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com or click her button.

This model is my mother.  She was born in 1907 and we lost her in 1961.  As you can see, these styles go a long way back. She made most of our cloths until the 40s.

These  were made  a little later.  We had store bought suits. Guess who that is on the right.
