Vintage Thingies Thursday

As all of you know today is Vintage Thingies Thursday. Our hostess for this vintage day is Coloradolady. However, I am using it today for a twofold purpose.

This is a vintage medicine measuring glass. On one side it measures l oz to 3cc. The other side measures 2 tablespoons to 8 teaspoons. I am not sure when these were discontinued and paper throw away replaced them.

On the bottom of the glass is American, 14 45, Hospital Supply Corp.

These are vintage Frigidaire 1950's colorful wall decorations or spoon rest finished in porcelain. On the back is imprinted the "Pot Rooster". These were giveaways when you purchased a Frigidaire product.

I want to take this time to let you know, Friday will be my 100th post for this year. I chose to acknowledge it today on Coloradolady's day because if it had not been for her I would not be blogging. She set it up and just informed me to get with it. I am sure there have been many times, she has regretted it. I get myself into blog trouble real often. She, along with some of you, have been a tremendous help to me in making this possible. I never in my wildest dreams imagined I would make it to a 100th post. It has been fun, and feel as though I have made so many new friends. Without all of your comments and support, I would not have survived. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Outdoor Wednesday

We should all get outside as much as possible and enjoy the wonders of nature. One of the best ways to do that is join Susan, A Southern Daydreamer, for Outdoor Wednesday.

A little windmill that stands in my backyard.

These little animals enjoying the fruit of the land. I spotted them along a roadway last week. I thought they were cute, and decided to share with the Outdoor Wednesday group.

Award Appreciation Day

I was blessed with another day brightener last week. A very special lady called "CC" honored me with the Attitude with Gratitude award. It really touched me coming from her as she has a few ups and downs going on in her life. However, she still maintains an excellent attitude and outlook on life. If you have not been to her blog, please do so as she will be an inspiration to you. http://lacenribbonroses.blogspot.com/

Thank you so much "CC" for this award, and I will continue trying to live up to it. May the good Lord bless and keep you.

Blue Monday

Blessings to all of you that has tuned in for Smiling Sally. For the latest episode of the blues bunch turn you blog to Blue Monday.

A friend of mine gave me this little blue penny magnet sometime ago. Pennies are supposed to bring good luck. Should that be true, I am sharing and passing on this little verse to each of you.

The last of the morning glories. They were so pretty in full bloom.

Vintage Thingies Thursday

Thursday is a great day of the week. We all get to join Coloradolady and friends for another day of Vintage Thingies Thursday showings.

Since a lot of you are into sewing and embroidery work, today I am sharing some things used in the past. How long has it been since you could buy a package of embroidery needles for 25 cents.

This is a 5-1/4" metal hand embroidery hoop. It has a cork liner and spring tension.

This is a 4" small wood hoop with a long metal screw adjuster.

This one is a 6" wood hoop with screw tighter as well. There were no names on the others, but this one is stamped "Bernina".

Outdoor Wednesday

Since fall is in the air, the weather could soon prevent your going outside. Take this time to get out and enjoy Outdoor Wednesday. Susan, A Southern Daydreamer, and her friends, will delight you with their showings.

These are called muscadines. They are in the grape family from the South with musky fruits grown in small clusters. Georgie is the largest producer of these. However, they are also a native of East Texas.

These lighter, brownish color ones are sometimes called scuppernags. They are a much sweeter variety. Both are used for making jelly and jam. But most of all just plain on eating.

For several years, my family and I have traveled to East Texas to gather these muscadines. The gentleman that has the vines is 86 years young. Honestly, for his age, he gets around and does great. You should be able to see large clusters on these vines, but due to the weather and him not able to keep them pruned enough, they did not have as many this year as usual. The pictures above of the clusters came off the internet.

Last weekend my sister and I went to East Texas for our annual trip. It was not the best of weekends. It rained and rained. However, it did not stop us from going after them. You see my sister is addicted to them.

This is my sister and the owner helping her gather the muscadines.

The nice owner has a old golf cart. Since it was so wet and rainy, he drove (at a rather rapid speed) us into the vines. It was some protection from the elements. He is driving, my sister is in the middle, and I am hanging on the outside wet as a dog.

We were driving along and he saw a nice cluster that we had passed. He puts it into reverse, but just as we got to the muscadines, we shot past and were heading into the vines. I did not know what was happening and neither did he. The harder he tried to stop, the faster we would go. Remember my sister is sitting in the middle. When he started to backup, she braced her foot on the floorboard. At least that what she thought. Instead she was pushing the gas pedal as hard as she could while he was trying to stop. After a few minutes, he realized what was she was doing. I could never tell you or you imagine how funny all this was. When things were back in control, he said at least we had a could laugh and made the day brighter.

Blue Monday

Sally, At Smiling Sally, said you could put most anything on Blue Monday. Well, I took her for her word as you will find in my showing today. Come on over and join us for a fun day.

This is a cute, little blue doggy pencil sharper that belongs to my precious great grandson.

Maxine tells it like it is. All her sayings are so typical of the everyday life we live.

Pink Saturday

Where has the week gone. Believe me, as you get older time gets shorter. Do not put if off, join me for a lovely showing of pinks with Beverly at Pink Saturday.

As you can tell, I made another trip to this little mall that I visit much too often. Flowers are pretty to me real or not. This beauty was just resting on top of a bag and, it's bright pinks caught my eye.

I loved this neat, pink butterfly wall hanging at this same mall.

Sky Watch Friday

Nothing more beautiful than viewing worldwide SkyWatch scenes. Do not miss the awesome pictures that will be showcased.

A hot Texas sun trying to break through the dark clouds.

When the nice, blue sky broke through, there was a Texas size cowboy hat cloud appearing in the sky.

Vintage Thingies Thursday

You may think you have seen everything. Trust me, you have not. When you visit Coloradolady for Vintage Thingies Thursday, you will definitely see something you have not seen before.

May you find something interesting in my showing of how time has changed the lines of communication. THIS WAS BACK IN THE 18th CENTURY.
In 1885 these were operators sitting at a small switchboard.

This is an old PBX board that was used during this period in certain business.

THIS IS THE 19th CENTURY.

This little building housed the telephone office in which the following ladies worked during the 40's and 50's. As you can see, the picture is not too good as it was raining when I tried to make it. Since then, no telling how many other people have made use of this little building.

< - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 >

Take a look at the lady in the 5th seat from the front. Guess who that is. She along with the others worked this manual switchboard until 1959. At that time, the office was converted to dial system.

THIS IS THE 20th CENTURY.
