For several years my sister, who is 85, has had to load and unload this electric wheelchair. Her husband can only walk with a walker a few steps. Whenever they to go somewhere she has to get him the truck and load the chair into the bed of the truck. Have you ever just tried to open and close the tailgate on a pickup? Believe me it is heavy and very hard to do.They have a lift that helped her load the chair.
On August the 5th when in the process of unloading the chair, the red strap broke and the heavy wheelchair flew back and knocked my sister down and back in the road. Her husband(87) was still in the truck and could not get out and she could not move. They are not sure how long she lay there. Fortunately, the school bus came along and saw the situation. Two little boys came over and called 911.
She was taken to the emergency room on August 4. It was determined she had broken her Femur bone in her right leg. They did surgery the next day. A week after surgery, she spent 20 days in rehab. Came home on August 24th. That was the day I went to stay with them and help out. Never realized my stay would turn into a month. It was very stressful for me. Wanted you to know a small part of what I went through while there and the reason I have not been up to commenting and visiting like I should.
She has a rod and screws in her right leg. Said it would probably take her three or four months to heal. At her age, may be longer. She is having a hard time dealing with it as she has always been very active. They have home health coming four times a week to work with her. It is a miracle she did not get killed.
Just a touch of blue I spotted in the woods when taking a walk to get away far awhile.

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry!! How is her husband getting taken of? I mean, in between the nurse visits? I just cannot imagine.
oh, dear! terrible! and terrifying! i am so glad the bus came by and found her! bless her in her healing.
What a terrifying ordeal for both of them. I cannot imagine what they went through that morning. Thank God it is a road well traveled at least as far as school buses go. Hopefully she will be more herself in the coming days.
I'm so sorry to hear of your sister's accident. Just be thankful that you were able to spend the month with her and her hubby. I realize how stressful it must have been for you, but just think how much more difficult it is for your sister and her hubby. Hopefully, they will have enough help coming in to help them along until your sister is healed. You have a great day, hugs, Edna B.
Bless their hearts...well, all of you. I am so sorry...and have wondered how YOU are doing. Yes, anything out of the ordinary like that can sure make you so tired.
I know you hated to leave them but with help coming thru the week, I am sure they will be ok. Does she not have children close by ?
Dearest LV, How sad that your sister was so seriously injured. I know it was a struggle for all of you. A broken femur is such a serious injury to suffer. I pray she is healing and managing better each day. I can only imaging how hard it was to be the care giver as well.
I am so happy you are home and I know you have to be exhausted as well. The bit of blue you shared is very sweet.
I am sorry about the link mix up. It was my fault. We were out of town and it was late Sunday night when I did my post. Honestly, I was falling asleep. Yikes.
Have a restful week.
Love,
Jeanne

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister's accident, LV. I'm glad you were able to help her and your brother-in-law but I'm sure it was so stressful on all of you. I hope your sister will be fully mobile again soon and I hope friends and neighbors will also help out when the health aides aren;t there. I will keep her in my prayers!
