Nothing nicer than a leisure stroll in the park, hand-in-hand, with someone you love.

I will be out of town from October 29 till November 3. See you on November 4.

Blue Monday

Another delightful Blue Monday with Sally at Smiling Sally. Always so much fun to see what everyone will share on this blue day.

These are pretty blue goblets I saw in a Goodwill store. I did not buy them as I have too many dishes now that are not used. Snapped the picture just for this special day.

This is a very nice Day Care Center. The blue windows caught my attention.

For those that are interested, I will be out of town and not blogging from October 29 till November 3.

Pink Saturday

Another great Pink Saturday. Please drop by and visit Beverly at How Sweet The Sound. She is a lady with many pink friends.

Due to the changes in weather, my roses are blooming like crazy. This is just one beautiful bloom of many. You can even see the rain drops on the leaves and petals. The entire bush is loaded with buds and big blooms. It never did this well during the summer.

During my roaming around looking for pinks, I saw these cute little plates. I see things and make pictures, but by the time I do a post, I forget where it was.
I thought the roses on the plates tied right in with my real one.

Vintage Thingies Thursday

Thursday of each week the bloggers meet with Coloradolady at her Vintage Thingies Thursday. You are invited to join us for vintage sights never seen before.

This vintage Webster Collegiate Dictionary is a 1948 edition. Over the years, the name on the front has weathered away. My sister graduated from high school in May, 1949, and immediately entered the Elliot Business College. One of her teachers, a Mrs. Wright, gave each of her students a dictionary. I do not know why I have it and not her.

VINTAGE FRIENDS

The remainder of my blog involves a vintage friendship and true story. In the early 60's, my sister and her husband were living in Missouri. Another family, that I will call the Browns, were their neighbors. They became close, dear friends. Over the years, they have both moved to various other locations. However, they never lost contact and kept in touch.

While they were all in Missouri, a beautiful baby girl was born to the Browns. After a few months, the child became very ill. She had to be hospitalized. They did not know what was wrong with her, or even if she would live. She remained in the hospital for quite some time. She had to have around the clock private nurses. This became very costly for the family. My sister and her husband visited them often at the hospital and helped when they could.

One night as they were leaving the hospital, my sister's husband pressed something in the mother's hand as he shook it. It was a $50 bill to help pay on the private nurses care. Remember all this happened over 40 years ago.

Last week my sister and husband received a card from the Brown family. I am quoting what they said: "We can't remember ever paying you back the $50.00. Please accept this with our love and thanks. We have tried to pass your kindness on to others over the years." Instead of one $50, she included two.

My sister and her husband could not believe this. They had never given it a another thought. In turn, they are making a donation to St. Jude Children Hospital in honor of the girl.

The girl is now over 40 years of age. However, due to very high fever during her illness, she has the mind of a three year old. As she got older, she had to be placed in a special care facility. She gets to come home for special occasions. Her family is very faithful and loving to her.

If a 40+ years of friendship is not vintage, I am not sure what is. I think it is truly remarkable when such a bond is formed. To me, that is way more important than any vintage material possessions. With all the turmoil we have in our world today, it is nice to know there are still some really good people out there. It never hurts to be kind to someone, as you never know when it will come back to you.

Same sister, just a different song.

Blue Monday - Special

My Blue Monday today with Sally at Smiling Sally is not my normal showings. Sometimes you just have to venture out and trust someone will enjoy it.

---------------L A Y T O N--THIS IS FOR YOU------------------

This was a nice surprise my great grandson made, with a little help, for me last week. When he gave it to me, he said I could put it on my blog. I nearly fell over. How many children at the age of five even know what a blog is. I assure you he does. He knows I need all the help I can get. You notice he colored his little shirt blue so I could use it on Blue Monday.

This is a great work of art. He did this all my himself just for me. He made sure the sky was blue.

Did you notice he even initialed it like a real artist and signed it to me. Even dated it. Dates are important on everything. A prized possession.

He loves blue. We both enjoy being outside in the yard or doing most anything. He needed a shovel to help me plant flowers, so this is his little "blue" shovel.

This has no blue, but wanted to share it as a part of things he was involved in. These are prints of his little feet. They made them look like a ghost for Halloween.

THERE MAY NOT BE A LOT BLUES FOR TODAY, BUT THERE SURE IS A LOT OF LOVE. LOVE YOU MORE.

Sunday Best Blog Award - HONREES

A very special lady named Kat at Heart 2 Heart, presented me with this wonderful award. I feel very blessed to have been included in this special group.

To show my appreciation for some other blogging friends, I have selected the following to receive this award as well. Their blog writings are filled with encouragement and inspiring thoughts. They appear rich in their faith and on the right path. My only request to them is continue to keep your feet on solid ground. Perhaps your actions will speak to someone else.

Pink Saturday

What a nice day! The sun is shining and we get to see many beautiful pinks. The only place where pinks are in abundance is at Beverly's How Sweet The Sound Pink Saturday. Sit back, relax and enjoy being in the pink.

This is a small, pink child's hand mirror. I wish I remembered who it belonged to and why I kept it.

I have had this tiny plate wall hanging for several years. One of my friends gave it to me for a birthday. It has a permanent hanger on the back. I have placed in several places, but it now rest on my bathroom wall.

Sky Watch Friday

An unbelievable shot of the moon just at daybreak in Albuguerque, N.Mex. last week. Just at the right time, a beautiful hot air balloon passed by on its way to Sky Watch Friday.

Vintage Thingies Thursday

Please join me for another exciting adventure with Coloradolady and her Vintage Thingies Thursday. Trust you enjoy my journey back in time.

I recently went to an estate sale and got this picture. The owner of the house is 85 years old and his family felt he needed to be placed elsewhere. Against his wishes, they were selling his possessions. I found this old photo just laying back in some junk, It was not even marked, but I paid a dollar for it as I love old pictures and the history they can tell. This is a picture of his father's old store back in the late 18th or early 19th century time. No one at the sale seem to know the background on it. I would love to know the history of it. I bet that fellow standing in the door left behind a lot of interesting stories. Did you notice the telephone number on the building.

This is an old photo of a vehicle they called a roadster with a rumble seat. This was in the 1924-1925 time. Not very clear, but the lady in the car is my mother. Not sure who owned this car as no one in my family would have been able to afford it.
This picture goes way back. I am not sure when it was taken. Back then, and possibly now, cock/rooster fights were a big thing. I understand it is not legal and probably was not then. Not too much entertainment available. Just to give you an idea of how long ago this was:
On the left is my grandfather: 1871-1934 -- I have very recollection of him.
My father: 1906-1987
My uncle: 1909-1990
My grandmother: 1873-1929 -- I never knew her as she passed away in January and I was born in August.

Outdoor Wednesday

Outdoor Wednesday is being brought to you by Susan, A Southern Daydreamer. I trust you enjoy my special outdoor showing today.

All the following pictures were made by my neighbor. They attended the Albuquerque, N.Mex. hot air balloon show this past week. He very kindly shared these beautiful balloons with me. There were too many to share them all with you.
