That is rare to hear someone say for never having had an orchid.
While living in Indonesia in the early 90s, we had our entire patio wall hung with orchids. LOVE their delicate and blooms and their vast variety in size and color.

Your orchid is beautiful -- I have never seen a blue one at all. I've never owned one either, but we visited a beautiful orchid nursery in Florida last season.... I thought they had every kind imaginable, but I don't remember any blue ones.
