Nice being back with Sally and her Blue Monday bunch (
http://smilingsally.blogspot.com). Spent a few days with my sister and her husband in Hernando, Ms. I try making two trips a year. One in April for their wedding anniversary.
Flew from Dallas/Ft.Worth to Memphis, TN. April 11 in the early morning hours.
Their anniversary was April 13.
This was made at home at another time. We did dress better for our outing.
I told them for that many years, they deserved something special. Suggested they find a nice restaurant and I would treat them. However, it depended on my brother-in-laws health. It so happened it turned out to be one of his good days. He has many health issues and gets around in an electric wheelchair.
A well known steak house had built in their area and that is where we had reservations at 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 13. This is the dining area. As soon as the menu was brought to us, I realized just what a really nice place it was. Figures on the menu were such as I did not understand. Not the normal way of pricing.
This is the dining area. There were several other couples there when we arrived. My brother-in-law is a big steak eater is another reason we wanted to go there. I ordered a 6oz filet, as I cannot eat large portions. Brother-in-law ordered something different. My sister got chicken. Come to find out, if you wanted anything more it was extra. They ordered a salad. It turned out to be a very nice. They both ate it and when their meat arrived, that is all they got. I had my camera, but was in a different frame of mind and failed to make pictures. I found the following on the internet as an example.
This is similar to my filet when served. However, it did not have a sauce like this or anything else. Just a small steak on a large, white china plate. Most nice places I have eaten, the chef puts some fancy swirl or such on the plate. Not this one. Since I did not want to eat just meat, ordered a baked potato.
No doubt you are saying what a big potato. However, the one I got was twice this size. I was born and raised on a farm and never have I seen such a large potato. We could have divided it into thirds, but probably gotten thrown out. It definitely was an experience, but worth it for their sake. One thing that bothered me was they in no way acknowledged their anniversary. The hostess knew it as well as our waiter. No mention of it.
All they have been through these 65 years wish I could fill a room with pretty, blue roses for their enjoyment.
