Waiting Room/ Blue Monday

Trust everyone had a nice weekend and ready for Blue Monday. Sallie at http://smilingsally.blogspot.com is a gracious hostess for this special day each week.

Last week I had an 11:00 o'clock doctor's appointment. I arrived at 10:45 and was greeted with a full waiting room. Shortly, another couple came in and joined us. The lady was in a wheelchair, so her husband sat next to me. After a few minutes, he pulls out this gadget called a "Nook". I had heard of them but never saw one. I waited a few minutes, but my curiosity got the best of me. I asked him one simple question about the "Nook". He told me about it and all the books he had read along with his life history. He could not hear very well, so his wife said you do not ask him a question. I told her guess I would have to keep my mouth shut. Everyone else had been listening and joined in with their stories. Before long, we were having a round table discussion on everything in their lives and the country. Some of the tales got us to laughing and really all seemed to be enjoying themselves. At least, we made the best of a bad situation. We all waited much too long. While we were still having our round table discussions, another couple shows up. In just a few minutes the gentleman chimed right in. He proceeded to tell us what he had done, where he had been, etc. His great love was photography. He had given each of the office girls a very pretty photo of bluebonnets. One lady asked if he sold them. He said no charge. Give him a name, address and he would send one free. Well when he mentioned bluebonnets, my antenna went up. Four of us requested a print. (I left the doctor's office at 2:pm)

It is unreal how much fun and interesting things you can find out in a doctor's waiting room. Very fascinating and intelligent group.

Last Saturday, I received the following in the mail. This is a 13x20 glossy photo of one single bluebonnet. He said he focused on just one bloom in order to capture more details than you would see in a group. My pictures are not as good as the actual copy. I was thrilled to get it.

This is that very nice gentleman.

The Bluebonnet (Lupinus Texensis)is a perennial in warm climates and an annual in colder areas. It blooms in the early spring and can be easily found in fields and along roadsides throughout Texas. It was adopted as the state flower of Texas in 1901.

Sky Watch Friday

Do you see what I see?
Maybe this cloud formation is someone lying down looking up to the skies. Or perhaps, a small volcano.

For more lovely worldwide sky sights, drop by Sky Watch Friday at http:skyley.blogspot.com.

This cloud formation looks like a duck to me. What do you think?

Vintage Thingies Thursday

No doubt, I must be getting old with time passing so fast. Vintage Thingies Thursday is here again. That calls for a visit with Coloradolady. Take time to drop by and see what she and her vintage friends are sharing at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com.

Back in the 1950s, this was a big arts and craft thing. This was made by taking a piece of fabric, packing cotton into the dogs and bird, or whatever design was on the material. A backing was attached to hold the cotton in place. This gives the finished piece a three dimensional look. This is still hanging in the home of one of my family members.
How long has it been since you saw a steak dinner at this price? There were a few good things in the old days.

REDnesday

A bright, sunny REDnesday with Sue is waiting for a great RED showing. Join her at http://suelovescherries.blogspot.com.

This is one of several needlepoint pieces I did several years ago. I thought the red breast went well on Rednesday.
My neighbor captured this cute little kitty playing with a red string.

FACE- LIFT

It is Blue Monday with Sally and friends at http://smilingsally.blogspot.com

I have a new face-lift in case some of you have not noticed. It is not a personal one for me, but should be. However, I will never do that. I still have everything, such as it is, that the good Lord gave me except my gallbladder. What you see is just me and will be when they put me under.

My sister gave me a new blog face-lift and button for my Christmas. Some of you have commented about it. I had several choices on backgrounds and headers. They each carried a ladies name. Two reasons I picked this one: it has a pretty shade of blue and it was called "Sally". Perfect for Blue Monday. I have wanted a "button" of my own for awhile. That was what I asked for. As you can see, I got a new header and side bar as well. There just comes a time when we need changes in our lives.

When I spotted this old blue fellow in an antique mall, he said put me on Blue Monday. Since I am one to please, here he is in all his blue glory.

Pink Saturday

Trust wherever you may be today, that it is a warm, sunny place. I going to drop by Beverly's and check out her Pink Saturday party. Seeing all the pinks at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog should put us all in a warmer mode.

Pink horse head bookends I spotted in an antique mall. Even caught a touch of ladies framed in their pink dresses in the background.
These pretty pinks are from my yard last summer. So tired of the cold, bad weather, just added to make us think warmer.

Vintage Thingies Thursday

Welcome to another day with Coloradolady at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com. I never tire of seeing what so many different, vintage things others share.

This is an vintage ice box that my sister has in her home. She uses it for storage. We never had one like this when growing up. They bought this some years ago.

This was just a plain old food can. My mother cleaned it up, poked a hole in the top,and cut out some of the best biscuits you ever tasted. She had none of the fancy, modern things. But, she made great use of what she had to work with.

Outdoor Wednesday

There are always so many interesting Outdoor Wednesday sights. Take time and visit Susan at http://asoutherdaydreamer.blogspot.com.

This action taking place in the street running by my house. I took these looking through my bedroom window. In this shot, the police jerked the driver out of the car and put him in the backseat of the patrol car. After sometime, several other patrol cars arrived.

The passenger, got out and jumped on the hood of the car. I did not get that shot. Then they took him and sat him down in my yard and watched him. After sometime, a constable came over and talked with them a long time. Eventually, they let him drive off in the red car. The driver was taken off to jail. There is never a dull moment around my place.

Blue Monday Winner

Sally, I trust you understand that Blue Monday is a day I sometimes feature someone very special. Today is another one of those days. I invite all of you to join me at http://smilingsally.blogspot.com and enjoy the show.

I am sure there are several out there that have not met my great grandson in the past. Blue being his favorite color, I always show him off on Blue Monday.

Several months ago, he saw an advertisement on the TV that there was going to be a talent competition in Dallas. Out of the clear blue, he asked his parent if they would take him. It was decided they would let him try. He was only five at the time. They were looking for ages 6 and up. He did not qualify at that time, but he impressed one of the talent agents. After his 6th birthday in August, the talent agent remembered him.

Later, they were contacted by this agency and advised there was to be a big competition in Orlando,Florida. Suggested they might like to enter him in it. After considerable deliberation and discussion, they agreed to take him. They were having the competition Christmas week, as the children would be out of school.

To make a long story short, they agreed, agency sent a photographer to Dallas to do a photo shoot on him. He had a short time to learn two commercials, a soap opera scene and monologue by the time they got there. Bear in mind, he went into this cold turkey. No training whatsoever. Here are a couple (out of 200) pictures that the judges used.

They went to Orlando, he did his thing, and walked off with this(out of 600 his age group).

This was made after they returned home.

This is not too good, as it was made and sent on cell phone. It was taken shortly after he won.

They are now faced with one of the biggest decisions they have had to make in awhile. The opportunities are endless and many doors have opened for him.
He has been a star since he was born in my life.

Pink Saturday

I am glad it is Pink Saturday again. There has been nothing pink around here lately. Just dark, cold days. Join me for a pink, warm visit with Beverly at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog.

Did you know "Betty Boop" was first introduced as a black and white cartoon. As it turned out, the cartoons were not too successful.

Marketers rediscovered "Betty Boop" in the 1980s. Her merchandise has far outdistanced her exposure in any other fashion. She has become more popular worldwide now. I found her sitting in an antique mall in one of her sexier poses. She even picked a pretty pink just for today.

For an interesting blog visit, drop by http://amontanalife.blogspot.com and say hello to Kit. She lives in the beautiful state of Montana. She has a daughter with a very unusual, worthwhile and rather scary job.

Trucking Along to VTT

My visit with Coloradolady and her Vintage Thingie Thursday is a little different today. You will find many vintage things of interest at http://coloradolady.blogspot. Visit and enjoy what the other participates share.

Back in the fall of 2010, two sisters, Ann "Tin and Sparkle" and Debra "Paint Splash" featured a vintage truck roadshow on VTT. They took these 1950 model trucks and decorated them.

This is the one that really caught my interest. They used a deer hunting theme. My son is an avid hunter and I felt he would like this.

Due to the interest in these trucks, they decided to have a giveaway of one of them. Unfortunately, when the name was drawn from the bed of this blue truck, my name did not come up. I was sorry I did not win, but I am sure it made someone else very happy.

Then along came Christmas, and they had another "Christmas Vintage Truck Roadshow. There was no giveaway on this one.

On Tuesday, January 4, 2011 these two great blogging friends really surprised me. The door bell rang and the postman left a big box. Never had any idea what I was getting. I could not believe my eyes when I opened it and saw this truck. I had already given up on the little trucks. What was amazing, it was the little blue truck that held the names for the drawing, that I did not win.

I will find my own personal use for it. My son will not get this one after all. I will never be as capable at decorating it like and Ann and Debra. Nevertheless, it will be put to good use.

Look at that little tire.

The front end.

The back view.

Thanks once again Ann and Debra for this special surprise. That is is the best gift of all, one you least expect. I love it.
