No doubt, I must be getting old with time passing so fast. Vintage Thingies Thursday is here again. That calls for a visit with Coloradolady. Take time to drop by and see what she and her vintage friends are sharing at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com.
Back in the 1950s, this was a big arts and craft thing. This was made by taking a piece of fabric, packing cotton into the dogs and bird, or whatever design was on the material. A backing was attached to hold the cotton in place. This gives the finished piece a three dimensional look. This is still hanging in the home of one of my family members.
How long has it been since you saw a steak dinner at this price? There were a few good things in the old days.

LV.. that is a wonderful piece .. my Father would have loved that! and yes imagine if you could get steak for that price ....xo HHL
Those were the days my friend- we thought they'd never end......
Ah yes,one can't get much to eat for that price today.
I'm sure we'll ever see prices like this again. Thanks for the memories, even if they do remind me of my age.
The sign is wonderful!!! I love it!
I made some decorative pillows using the method you described. That was in the 1980s and was the first time I learned about it.
I've never heard of this kind of picture, is there a name for it? I bet those steaks were good ,too!!
Love the old dinner sign. Good ole American food
Hi LV,
Wow! I love the dog picture. I have seen greeting cards made that way, with a plush sheep or bunny sticking out of the cardstock, but I have never seen a fabric print done like that. I may just have to try it sometime. Your sign is awesome too.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment. Kylie was happy about it, and so was I. I really enjoy your blog too.
Happy Rednesday and Vintage Thingie Thursday,
God bless,
Kathy
Great dog picture. I have seen those stuffed pieces before. Sort of a unique look to them.
I remember the stuffed pictures! I love the old ad! Wish we could find prices like that now!
Hugs- Tete
Hi LV,
Thanks for stopping by
I didn't even know about Thingie Thursday. I will visit.
I like anything with dogs and cats. My house will always have animals real and decorative.

Great post, LV.... YES---it has been a very long time since we could get a 10 oz steak, salad and potato for less than $4.... WOW!!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
LV,
I've seen pictures like the one you've shown and I wondered how they were put together! Some old things would be very welcome nowadays just like that steak dinner for $3.85!
~Jean
If only REAL food were that cheap again!
Happy VTT!

Well, that's been a while!
That is a wonderful piece, I lake it!
Kisses.
That picture is great! Like a couple of the other commenters I've seen greeting cards done in this way, but never a whole picture!
If I were you I'd keep that sign for another 20 years, then it'll be truly amazing!!
Interesting information on that painting, and the price for that dinner? Where did it go?
I had no idea about stuffing cotton into images to give a three dimensional look. Of course, now that you have told me about it, I will probably see them everywhere. Looking at that steak dinner sign ~ I'm not sure if we can even buy the garlic toast for $3.85 today! Great post!!
Love,

I sure didn't know about those pictures. I wouldn't mind a meal at that price. I'd never cook again.
Wow! Nowadays, all you can get for that price is the french fries! That was a fun find though. And I've never seen those three dimensional pictures - it sounds neat.
I don't think I have ever had a steak dinner for that price! Love the doggy print.
Blessings!
Oh my gosh Lv, I made one of these in the late 1960's when I was first married and setting up house keeping. My Grandparents had given us a living room suit with cushions with grouse on it. I got fabric that closly matched it and made one of these to go over my sofa. Wow seems like centuries ago. Thanks for sharing and visiting my breakfast. About the only time I fix a big breakfast like that is when I am snowed in like today. I would not be able to get tru the door if I ate that every day~~~ Have a great weekend~~Sherry~~
I love the doggie print. My husband's grandfather had one that looked very much like this one.
Oh I just love to see old prices. I wonder if that was a lot of money to people back then?
Have a wonderful weekend.
xx

Interesting wall piece, LV. You would have to have the right material to produce this. Very unique.
Love the vintage sign! :-) Wish I could see the texture of the picture better; it sounds interesting.
hi LV! I remember when I was a young girl scout, I made a framed picture very similar to the one that you have featured - I think I won 2nd place! I haven't seen these in quite a while. Thanks so much for stopping by my page this week! -diane
Now a days...a glass of tea is almost $3.85.....so sad!!! I seem to remember this picture, I had forgot about it~!! Nice reminder. Happy VTT!
I vaguely remember the stuffed pictures. The old sign is cool - they are all the rage ;right now.
