1940 SACK FABRIC

Wonder what interesting vintage things we will see today. If you enjoy antiques, drop by Coloradolady's at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com.

Clothing and other items made from feed sacks were popular during the forties when there were shortages of both goods and money. People were in the mode of "making do or do without". Not only did chicken feed come in cloth bags but cattle and horse feed as well. Flour was packed in cloth bags which could withstand lots of washing. In fact, today some are claiming they are using cup towels made from flour sacks.

Later burlap type bags were used and came in printed designs. Neighbors would trade feed sacks to have enough for a garment. A lot of times the feed sack scraps were used in quilting. They were so durable and lasted much longer. When you were sleeping under one of the quilts, you could try to pick out the fabric that at one time was your dress.

My sisters and I wore clothes made from these type feed bags for several years. Our mother was a great seamstress. She also made her own clothes. We were always excited to get another sack of feed. A new dress would be coming.

Outdoor Wednesday

Welcome to another addition of Outdoor Wednesday. Susan, http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com has the best outdoor show around. She would love having you drop by for a visit.

Once upon a time when we had rain, this was some mushrooms growing on a tree. I had never seen one that did this. I have had plenty on the ground.
This little plant was trying so hard to grow out of this old rotten tree. I am sorry to report it never made it.

Blue Monday

Good morning Sally and all the Blue Monday participates. Sally at http:smilingsally.blogspot.com would be very happy if you stopped by for and say hello.

Two great ways to start your day - visiting Smiling Sally with a big, hot cup of coffee.
No matter where you see or use blue dishes they are beautiful. These make a nice table setting. Trust me, this is not my table or dishes.

Even hanging on the wall in an antique mall they look nice.

Milk Glass

Even though Coloradolady is a year older, she is still able to feature some great vintage treasures. The best way to see some of those grand old things is go to http://coloradolady.blogspot.com.

This is an antique dry-sink that I was fortunate enough to get from my late in laws. My father-in-law was a skilled carpenter. He made just a few minor repairs. It is in its original state except for a touch of stain.

The two little lamps are Hobnail milk glass. They are from around the 1940-50's time frame. They needed new shades when I got them. The man at the shade place said they were very old and hard to find. They did not make them like this anymore. Solid wood was used between the milk glass.

Just to show you "if it is not broken, don't fix it" is my philosophy, this milk glass ceiling light has been here since the late 60's. All these things are in one of my bedrooms. I call it my antique room as everything in it is just that.

A STAR FELL

L.V.'s
For some unknown reason, my lucky star fell twice in one month. It is said "Good Things Happen to Those Who Wait". I have waited a very long time, and thankful times are changing.
I was blessed last week with this great win from Linda at "Random Creativity"(click). It is a gift certificate from CSN. I have never had any experience with these stores. This will be a new learning experience for me processing this certificate. Thank you so very much Linda. I am pleased your selection method picked me for this win. I truly appreciate it. I will let you know when I get all this figured out and what I bought.

If you have not been to Linda's blog, please take time to give her visit. She is a lovely lady with lots of nice things to share.

Blue Monday

Sally at http://smilingsally.blogspot.com invites you to join her each Blue Monday for the best show in blogger-ville.

This beautiful sky shot speaks for itself.
This would make a pretty Easter hat, if it were not made of glass.

FOR YOU INFORMATION

Sunday, according to the calendar, was the first day of spring. I trust there are signs of such wherever you may be. Today is another special and important date. It is our own Coloradolady's birthday. She does not normally do a post on Monday's but you might like to send her an e-mail. Happy Birthday Suzanne!

Pink Saturday

I am so glad to be a part of the Pink Saturday group. Beverly at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog always makes us feel so welcome. In fact, she has been having bigger parties for us the past few months. Last weeks I think there were 224 in attendance.
One of pink flowers from last year. Waiting for their arrival gives me something to forward to.
This is a little pink drive-in restaurant in a nearby town. They make the best hamburgers. However, the star attraction is the homemade ice cream. Absolutely melt in your mouth. They cannot keep enough on hand in the summer.

A pretty pink flower show from a friend's yard.

St.Patrict's Day

Coloradolady is sharing her Vintage Thingies Thursday with ole St.Patrick. Go to http://coloradolady.blogspot.com and see what vintage St. Patrick goodies others might share.
Since I have no vintage St. Patrick's things, I found this neat vintage bracelet on the internet.

These are 1930s green depression salt and pepper shakers. They were made by Hazel Atlas Glass Company and have a "paper clip" design on both dies. They are mine.
This Hazel Atlas marking is on the bottom. Hard for me to get a clear shot of it.
