Vintage Thingies Thursday: Carpenter Hands

I would like to share with you the skilled , talented hands of my late father-in-law. His trade was a carpenter. He truly loved and enjoyed creating things from wood. Over the years, he built his wife a complete dinning room suit. It was a work of art. These pieces are from the 50s and 60s time frame.

His speciality, for the public, was bird houses. The two above were one of a kind. He was well-known and respected throughout the community for his unique, smaller bird houses. Some people would buy several at a time. It pleased him knowing others appreciated his work. I am not sure what happened to these bird houses when his estate was settled. Sorry, I do not have more pictures of his work.

He was a man of great wisdom and visions. Therefore, this little saying must have meant a lot to him. He designed and framed it as shown. In order to highlight the significance of the saying, he added his personal touch. He hand carved little owls to top off his frame. My niece has this item.

These two are what you might call novelty pieces. However, most of his ideas were a work of art.

Thank you for stopping by, and trust you enjoyed this subject. We could all learn from the wise old owl.

For more vintage goodies, stop by Coloradolady's blog, there are lots of great things on display today.

First time to your site and may I say I have been missing a treat! I love your profile page. "I do what I want, when I want." Lady, you are my new hero! I want to be just like you when I grow up :)

I love bird houses but yours are extra special.

I think these pieces would qualify as folk art.
