Blue Monday

Nice being back with Sally and her Blue Monday bunch (http://smilingsally.blogspot.com).  Spent a few days with my sister and her husband in Hernando, Ms.  I try making two trips a year.  One in April for their wedding anniversary.

Flew from Dallas/Ft.Worth to Memphis, TN. April 11 in the early morning hours.

Their anniversary was April 13.
This was made at home at another time.  We did dress better for our outing.

I told them for that many years, they deserved something special.  Suggested they find a nice restaurant and I would treat them. However, it depended on my brother-in-laws health.  It so happened it turned out to be one of his good days.  He has many health issues and gets around in an electric wheelchair.
A well known steak house had built in their area and that is where we had reservations at 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 13. This is the dining area. As soon as the menu was brought to us, I realized just what a really nice place it was.  Figures on the menu were such as I did not understand. Not the normal way of pricing.
This is the dining area.  There were several other couples there when we arrived. My brother-in-law is a big steak eater is another reason we wanted to go there.  I ordered a 6oz filet, as I cannot eat large portions. Brother-in-law ordered something different.  My sister got chicken. Come to find out, if you wanted anything more it was extra.  They ordered a salad.  It turned out to be a very nice.  They both ate it and when their meat arrived, that is all they got. I had my camera, but was in a different frame of mind and failed to make pictures.  I found the following on the internet as an example.

This is similar to my filet when served.  However, it did not have a sauce like this or anything else.  Just a small steak on a large, white china plate. Most nice places I have eaten, the chef puts some fancy swirl or such on the plate.  Not this one.  Since I did not want to eat just meat, ordered a baked potato.
No doubt you are saying what a big potato.  However, the one I got was twice this size.  I was born and raised on a farm and never have I seen such a large potato.  We could have divided it into thirds, but probably gotten thrown out.  It definitely was an experience, but worth it for their sake. One thing that bothered me was they in no way acknowledged their anniversary.  The hostess knew it as well as our waiter.  No mention of it.
All they have been through these 65 years wish I could fill a room with pretty, blue roses for their enjoyment.

I'm glad you had a good trip. But sorry that you spent so much for a meal that was really not up to par. Wonder why they did not mention their anniversary? You are so thoughtful!!

It was so nice of you to treat your sister and brother-in-law fro their anniversary, LV! I think many steakhouses serve portions this way--they charge for every extra. It can be so expensive. It is a shame that the restaurant did not acknowledge their anniversary in any way. That is not a good way to do business!

How nice that you could be with your sister & her husband for their 65th anniversary! I think once was enough for that restaurant! The one where my husband & I used to go for our anniversary would give us a specially printed menu with "Happy -- Anniversary, Jane & Harvey" printed on it - still have some of them I saved. We almost made it to 52 yrs before he died last Nov., but my parents made it to almost 71 yrs!
Happy Springtime!

Hi La Voice,

What a generous person you are! I can't imagine a restaurant behaving this way! I'd phone the manager and report it.

Thanks for playing today.

Have a Beautiful Blue Monday!

So glad you celebrated with your family.
Sounds like that restaurant needs a visit form the fella from the food network.
It takes more than good food to create a pleasant experience.

I'm glad you got to help your sister and her husband celebrate their special day, but that restaurant certainly left many things to be desired.

Glad you were able to make their Anniversary more Sparkling as you being there. That is a tremendous number of years to be celebrated.

The restaurant was so distastefully organized. It needs to be complained about. Very low business factor.

I know they appreciated your visit and the dinner. So sorry the staff did not wish them happy anniversary.

Hi Meme, How wonderful that you could be with your sister and brother-in-law for their 65th anniversary. They look wonderful. I'm glad they were happy with the place where they had dinner. I'm with you. When it comes to food...presentation is everything. It makes a nice meal more inviting.

Tonight we made reservations at a nice restaurant and when we told them it was our 52nd anniversary they said they will prepare a special dessert for the occasion at no cost. Nice.
Thank you for your very sweet comment today. You are such a dear person.

Have a happy week.
Love, Jeanne

OH- I do not like those kinds of places at all. Sounds to me like they were kind of snooty. What a shame that they didn't do SOMETHING to honor their anniversary. It was really nice of you to do that. I am so glad to see a picture of you there!!!! Lovely!!!! xo Diana

Dearest LV,
Happy belated Anniversary to your sister and brother in law. Wow, 65 years, that's what my Parents celebrated last year and Mom died just 11 days short of their 66th.
It bother's me that the waiter and waitress did not honor them on such a very special occasion! Knowing too well how you must have felt, knowing that in his health condition, it is a God sent for living through this 65th.
But younger people don't always grasp it...
Hugs to you and stay well yourself.

65 years, that's amazing! My parents have been married for 60 years but they didn't celebrate it. On the other hand my Mum just celebrated turning 80 this weekend and that was quite a party!

The restaurant you visited sounds very odd and strange. I hope your food at least tasted the way it should!

The blue birthday cake I showed was home made and tasted just as good as I wanted it to, very heavy and chocolately!

Oh my goodness, 65 years! Wow! Sweetness! wonderful blessing! I only hope we can keep going and going and going! We celebrate 31 years on May 3 this year. Your food looked delicious but it is sad they did not do anything for your sister and brother-in-law! I am not a mean person but I will write an e mail or letter to any place I think needs to know about poor CS! That is just sad. I remember Hannah going to dinner with her old beau and she is a vegetarian! John Elway (ugh) has a couple restaurants in town and one is located in the Ritz-Carlton hotel downtown! Enough said! $100 later they split an order of asparagus, Markus had a steak and Hannah ate a tomato and mozzarrella salad! Goodness, the pricing is awful! But they did acknowledge their "dating" anniversary and gave them dessert to split! You are so sweet and I hope you will wish them well for me. I rmemeber when Suzanne did the Senior Birthdays and she asked if anyone would like to send them a card. I enjoyed it so much and I am always willing to celebrate senior birthdays so if you have anyone who needs cheering let me know! I love writing handwritten notes. Hugs to you!

awww, what a sweet thing for you to do for them, LV....I can't believe they didn't at least give them a cupcake to share and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY wish.
I believe I would report it all to the owner.

What a wonderful celebration for the couple. I am sure they appreciated your thoughtfulness even if the final event itself did not quite meet what you expected.
