Vintage Thingie Thursday

It is interesting and surprising what will show up on a vintage outing for Vintage Thursday. I really could not believe my eyes when I saw my "thingie" today. Coloradolady has many vintage finds at

I spotted this old gate in, of all places, an antique mall. But, what  really caught my eye was the little dog ornament. I have four of these ornaments.  The quality of the photo is not good due to the lights there.

My grandparents, on my mother's side, lived out in the country many, many years ago.  They had a chain linked fenced yard with these doggies on the it. I have two gates into my back yard.  On each of them, I have two of these doggie armaments from their fence.

They are old and treasured. My grandfather was born in 1877 and passed away first in 1968.  My grandmother, Pama we called her, was born in 1887 and we lost her in 1985.  When their estate was being settled, my husband got these doggie ornaments off their fence. She loved her yard filled with assorted flowers.  Guess I inherited that from her. I hope someone in the next generation will keep them.

Those are adorable! I am so glad that you got them.
My grandparents on my dad's side were born in 1872 and 1876. I didn't get to know them but wish I could of.

I remember these, there used to be many more around. The ones you inherited are so sweet, I guess you can buy different kinds of dogs.

That is a really cute idea, I will keep it in mind for future garden gates (I live in an apartment).

Love these little doggies...start talking about them and show them to that adorable great-grandson and when he starts showing an interest, when he is older, take them off and give them to him right then. That way the story will never be lost.
Love your Vintage Thingies....

Oh I loved that you called her Pama. So glad that you have the doggies, I would LOVE to have a fence like that. Have a great weekend.

It is a charming story. The dogs you unheritated from your grandparents remind you the memory of them. I like the idea that when you open your fence door, you have a thought for them.( I do not know if I express myself correctly.)

Have a nice week. Bonjour from France

I've never seen anything like those -- they're neat, and so is their story. Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us!
