Vintage Thingie Thursday - E' snuff Said

Once again it is time to spend your Thursday at Coloradolady's and see all the interesting vintage thingies.  You can find her at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com or click her button.

My grandparents on my mother's side, dipped snuff until the end.  I do not know how they endured it.  They had to be addicted as it was terrible.  They seemed to enjoy it so much, I tried it one day.  That was my first and last. However, I do not recall ever seeing them use it in a container like this.  Theirs was always in one or the other of the following types.  Both lived a long life.  We lost Papa at 91 and Pama at 98. They had eight children.  Pama outlived all of them except two. Apparently, snuff did not cause them any great harm.

These make great little water glasses.

My daddy called his grandparents papa and pama. You are the first person I've ever known to have a pama!!!! The snuff did not shorten their lives, did it?

Snuff has certainly been around a long time. Thanks for sharing a bit of family history.

Love this post!! I remember being too young and trying to be "cool" like my boy cousin and trying snuff. I thought it was awful and it made my stomach hurt, and like you, once was enough for me!!

I remember that amber bottle...
Mr. Sweet's mama chewed tobacco but I don't remember seeing her dip snuff. ewwwwww...such a nasty habit. I never tried it but I did smoke a cigar once...ONCE...it made me soooo sick.

I love that you found these, and love your story of Papa and Pama. Chris had a Pamma, and they said it "Pam-ma."

My own Mammaw J. "dipped" all the days til the end, as well---she and her Mama both lived within three weeks of their 98th birthdays, so I guess Garrett might have had something going we didn't know about.

PS---didn't "go cut me a little stick," (for the snuff) give a much better feeling than "GO CUT ME A SWITCH!"

Pama is great! That is one I haven't heard. Maybe little dude will decide to call one of his Grandmas that. Love the little glasses! Hope all is well and you are having a great week!

Looking at that bottle, I would never know it was meant for snuff unless somebody told me--verinteresting.

An interesting story! You have good genes in your phamily! A patient of ours is an older gentleman. He was flying to Italy to visit family for 3 months! He lost his mom at age 104 in 2008! WOW!
The vintage items are so cool!
