Vintage Thingies Thursday

My how time flies! It is already time for another visit with Coloradolady and her Vintage Thingies Thursday. There will be a big variety of Thingies for you to enjoy.

My showing today is a package of vintage Big Town double edge razor blades. I have no idea why I have kept them. They were made in the 1940s time period by the Sheffield Mgr. Corp. out of Newark, N.J.

The outside box is not in very good condition. However,it contains 20 packages of these blades, that have never been opened. Each package contains five blades. They are just as they were when packaged. I assume you paid 10 cents for one package.

This is the first of a series of thirteen Christmas calendars I will share with you on different blogs. As you can see, this is for 1994. Each one was made by an elderly gentlemen. Regretfully, he is no longer with us.

Wow - I couldn't really tell from looking at the small picture but when I enlarged it I saw how much work went into that calendar. Very pretty.

Those old double-edged blades bring back all kinds of memories, although I'm not familiar with this particular company. They definitely qualify as vintage things!

Hi LV!

When i looked at those razors i remembered back to the medicine cabinet we used to have when I was a kid. It had slots in it where you disposed of the old razor blades!

My Dad always shaved with double edged blades just like you've shown...I can picture him during the knob to open the razor and put in a new blade! Thanks for the memory.

Wow love the razor blades. How cool. Over the years we use to have a similar calendar hanging around our house.

That brings back memories. I don't think you can buy double-edged razor blades any longer.

I love old packaging... Theres something more artistic than now. Now it seems packaging is all about capturing attention on a shelf where it used to be more about art. Or expression.... or so thats how it seems to me.

I remember my Dad's double edged blades. My Mom used them to rip out stitches in sewing! I recently threw some out from her old sewing machine. Too sharp for me!

Wonderful that you have these blades. I remember my father using double-edge razor. He would screw the handle and the top would open up to place in the blade.
Happy VTT!

AWWWW the razor blade memory!!

Daddy used exactly those blades, and since I was a neaten-up-things child, I once stuffed a whole package into that little slit in the back of the medicine cabinet plainly labeled "Razor Blades."

I'd crammed in five, all in the little red wrappers, in a neat little bundle, tightly balanced in the slot. I thought that's where you kept them---it SAID SO on the inside of the cabinet.

I think he even rolled his eyes when he told my six-year-old-self that it was for disposing of the OLD ones, not a special cubby for the new. No telling how many dimes' worths were down that wall.

You've given me a wonderful laugh this cloudy day!

Thanks for dropping in at Lawn Tea---I hope you'll come back sometime.

Those brought back some memories of my dad's razor. He used that type of blades but I'm sure his weren't from the 40's though. I do remember getting cut pretty bad with one of those blades. Mom was using it as a knife type tool to cut a craft with. When she left the room I tried to do it and cut my knee! Blood flew every where! Luckily I didn't need stitches but I do have a scar!

Great Memories!

I would save the razor blade package too. It is so fun to find old things in original containers.
(By the way, your sunset sky photo is beautiful)
