Vintage Thingie Thursday

It is vintage day of the week at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com
Coloradolady welcomes you to her world for the best sharing of things from another time.
Some of the modern conveniences we have today are much better than the old ways. I prefer the modern way for our trans-portation. However, some of the old days were not all bad. I still have my mother's old straight back chair like this. It is comfortable with a pillow to sit on. The one thing that is rapidly changing, for the worst in one sense, is communication. How great it was to have neighbors that were neighborly. No one has time to just talk anymore. The personal lines of communication have been cut. What will the next generation be like?
What a blessing we do not have to do our laundry like this. In fact, I do not recall us ever having anything like it. We drew our water from a well, boiled the cloths in an old black pot, scrubbed them on a rub board, and rinsed by hand in galvanized wash tubs.

my mother used an old ringer washer and rinse tubs for many, many years. and we hung the clothes on clotheslines all year long. :) thanks for the memory.

Some new things are an improvement and some are a step in the wrong direction. Yay for new washing machines and sad to see people texting instead of talking to the person right there in front of them. I think we agree.

I well remember summer evenings outside with neighbors on our patio sipping iced tea. It certainly was a different era. My best friends mother still used a wringer washer. It was fascinating to watch the clothes being fed through the wringer. They actually cleaned better than the top loading automatics that took their place.

I am eternally grateful to be living in this age instead of earlier ones. Nostalgia paints them as rosy, but they were so difficult!

I remember the wringer washer diapers wrapped around the wringer,If it does, an article of the wash may
wrap several times around a roller before it is noticed; unwinding such a
piece is often difficult, sometimes impossible without removing a roller .
Its you're already happened?

Great post. There are always goods and bads when it comes to comparing the days of old with today's crazy world. I am old enough to "YEARN" for the good-ole-days!!!!! BUT--on the other hand, I am thankful for my washer/dryer, dishwasher, computer, TV, cellphone, etc. etc. etc...... SO???? Guess the good outweighs the bad--most of the time.
Hugs,
Betsy

I completely agree with you about the lack of neighborly communication nowadays. Many of us spend entirely too much time on our electronic devices. I know I spend too much time on the computer, but I do enjoy getting away from it once in a while.

I miss a lot from back in the 1950-1960's
mostly besides good neighbors I miss the low crime and you could leave home and never think about someone breaking into your house and stealing anything
we always left the keys in the car
and the movies were all decent
