"UNCERTAIN"

It is Outdoor Wednesday again. I am taking Susan, at http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com, and all of you to a place in East Texas.

There are several versions as to how this little place got the name "Uncertain". One was because steamboat captains on their way to Jefferson, Texas in the earlier days had trouble and were "uncertain" where to moor their vessels. Regardless, what is factual, "Uncertain" was incorporated in 1961.

One of the few cafes in the area. I am sure you will find something to your liking on these menus.
"Uncertain" is located on Caddo Lake. There is a visitor center, camp grounds, boat docks, and great fishing.

Caddo Lake is Texas' only naturally formed lake, created in the late 1800s. when Red River broke through a logjam covering more than 2600 acres across the Texas-Louisiana border with water.

Water lilies carpet the surface of the lake.

This was at one time Dick & Charlies Tea Room.

These are bald cypress threes over 400 years old. These gray strands of moss covering so many trees was used for stuffing seats of the Ford Model T.

There are 200 species of birds, like this blue Heron.

Certainly is a cute post. I would love to have tea in that old room above the swamp as long as I didnt fall through the floor and get eaten by a gator. :)

That sounds like a very interesting place. Love the photos.

Wonderful post again! I would love to be able to see this place. I've seen photos and movies when I was younger, but this is the best set of photos and information yet.
Loved reading the menus. I have never had gator. We don't eat crawfish here, it's bait. Comes out of mudding water and cetainly tastes like that.
The trees, the trees. I think one of my favorite of all time and I have never seen one in person...they have a haunting look to them.

Have a great evening!

I am pretty certain that I have not heard of Uncertain before. Thank you for sharing the pictures.
Cypress trees are amazing. They can have an eerie quality about them looking like tree monsters ready to snare trespassers, or as in one of your photos they become a welcomed canopy along the river giving some shade to boats.
Thank you for leaving your calling card when you dropped by my blog - I enjoy seeing who has come to call.

This is very cool and lovely! Would love to see this place - mysterious and romantic at the same time. When we were visiting Savannah the tour guide advised we not touch the moss because it was full of chiggers! nasty little red bugs! Wonder if that's true - now considering the story for the car seats - hmmm
Hope you're having a wonderful sunshiny day,
Kathy

Great post...and the photos are wonderful. I live close to a lake that looks a lot like this one. Reelfoot Lake, TN was formed by an earthquake in the 1800's and was formed when the Mississippi River ran backwards for several years...
So glad you came by...please come back anytime!!!

Hello! Love all your photos. They are really wonderful. I bet that tea room made for a fun stop once upon a time, how it sits over the water like that. But I have to say what I'll remember is your fact about the moss being used to stuff the seats of the model T.
Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier-
