Vintage Thingies Thursday

Welcome to another exciting segment of Vintage Thingies Thursday with Coloradolady.

Back in the 70's my late husband had a crush on Dolly Parton. We both enjoyed her and admired how she became a big star from meager means. Just for the fun of it, I bought him this doll. Told him that was as close as he would get to her. Since, he was not a "doll" playing person, the doll was never taken out of the box.

This doll is a vintage 12 inch Poseable Dolly Parton Doll in the original box. It was made in Hong Kong by (c) Goldberger Doll Mfg. Co., Inc. of Brooklyn, N.Y. She is dressed in the original red outfit and still strapped in the box and attached to factory cardboard insert. Her little red shoes are still sealed in a plastic bag inside the box. Excellent condition.

The following picture was taken off E-Bay. It is the same doll I have and in the same great unused condition. The asking price on it was $249 plus shipping. Well, I nearly fell out of my chair. However, in reality, nothing is worth more than what someone is willing to pay for it. I doubt many would pay that for this doll. I have decided I might better seal her up for preservation.

Isnt that fun! I love when I come across something I have and get a surprise for what it is worth :o)

My hubby, dad (mom when she was alive) and I really like to watch The Antique Roadshow on PBS... some of those finds (even garage sale finds) are real priceless treasures! simply awesome.

haha love that you gave that to your husband and said that was the closest that he would get to Dolly Parton :o)

Blessings & Aloha!
(Thank you so so much dear friend for stopping by!)

Hi LV!

Before I read the part about the one on Ebay, I was thinking the same thing. I saw your dolly and instantly thought that it would be a good seller on Ebay!

That's the cutest story ever, I now have a large smile think of that. You know, I've never seen a Dolly doll, the ebayer just might get that $249.00 and maybe get more. That would be such great fun. Happy VTT, have a wonderful weekend. Take good care of Dolly..

That's funny about you giving your husband a Dolly doll! I can only imagine how much you two laughed about it!

That is amazing how much it is worth! And I'm surprised you never took it out of box. I'm sure it would have been out of the box at my house. My kids wouldn't have taken it out I'm sure!

That is a great doll. I bet there weren't very many made. It does seem like more of an adult's than child's toy.

I never knew there was a "Dolly" doll, but yours is LOVELY and the story that goes with it makes it even better!

I say hang onto it!

At one time I had a neighbor who went to school with Dolly. Oh the stories she would tell. They didn't treat Dolly very nicely.

When in Branson, did you notice all the flea markets. I stayed a week with my sister and all we did all week was visit every single flea market in the area!!! Pat @ junkblossoms

LV, you'd be surprised what the doll fanatics will pay!

I notice Dolly the doll is a bit slimmed down IN A CERTAIN REGION...

I always loved her voice, and her songwriting skills are superb. Her "Hard Candy Christmas" and the song about her little Joseph's Coat are so haunting.

My husband still carries a torch for Sophia Loren...he also adored Ingrid Bergman...I think they are the same age...

What a funny story LV! I've always loved Dolly Parton, as a singer, and as an actress. She was in one of my favorite movies, Steel Magnolias. Yes, you're right, the doll is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. But I bet it's really priceless to you!
Happy VTT!

Aren't you glad that your husband wasn't the type of guy to play with dolls?

I mean, after all, if he had been, you may not still have it to show...

Just a wonderful story and the doll is great. Very unique. Thanks for stopping by today.

Funny story! I find it amazing that no one every opened the box. Couldn't happen in my house. I'd be watching the ebay auction to see if I want to cash in on the investment! LOL

Wow! That's wonderful! And who doesn't love Dolly Parton?

You never can tell how much these things will go for, but I suspect that an unopened package like that is worth a fair bit of money. Maybe not $250 (or maybe more, who knows?!), but a decent bit.

Hello Meme, that Dolly Parton may make you some money someday. HA! I love your story about the reason you gave her to your hubby. I got a chuckle out of that one.

Have a happy day.

That's hysterical! I always think it's so funny to look back at all the people who have had dolls made in their likeness- it's a glimpse at the pulse of the time!

As soon as you said she was still in the original unopened box, I knew you had something that someone will be willing to pay alot for...the fact that it is a Dolly Parton doll will just add even more value!

Thank you for sharing this-I have never before seen an unopened doll box!

What a fun and sweet memory to have! I remember being a little girl, and a new girl moved from Georgia with her Dolly doll. She looked different than our Barbies! How cute that you bought it for your husband! Mine knows I love Lilly Pulitzer, so he bought me the Lilly Barbie.

Great story! I do remember when Dolly was quite popular. You've got quite a little treasure on your hands.
