Vintage Thingies Thursday

Look what day it is again! Seems Vintage Thingies Thursday hosted by Coloradolady always arrives right on time. Please join all her friends and see the great vintage items they have to share.

My friend and neighbor very graciously let me borrow some of her vintage books. I would like to share some of those with you today.

This little book was her very first reader back in 1935. For some reason, of all her school books, she chose to keep this reader. The cover is worn but the pages are in very good condition. Because of its age and care, my pictures are not too good.

It has a Copyright date of 1927-30.

She is one-fourth Choctaw Indian from Oklahoma. Due to this heritage, she has this 1951 version of "Hiawatha".

It contains some very nice color pages of this story. I chose to share a few with you.

The following are a few other books she saved and kept through the years.

I am sure you are familiar with "The Wizard of Oz", by L. Frank Baum. This is from 1944 and is in excellent condition.

This is a child's book called "Happy Times" from 1938, by American Book Co. It contains stories, word list, safety habits, and attitudes. Good condition.

This one is called "Spelling We Use" from 1950. Her brother used this when he was in the 8th grade. It, too, is in good condition.

Last and the least is this Big Little Book, "Woody Woodpecker", The Sinister Signal, by Walter Lantz. The best I can tell it is from the 1960's. It is rather worn on the cover, but the pages are good.

Um, what does it mean when one of the "vintage" books is a book from my childhood? Yikes! That Hiawatha brings back tons of memories. ~Kelly

I loved all these sweet books..but Woody Woodpecker was one of my favorite cartoons. I never understood why his laughter drove my poor mother straight up a wall. :).
Thank you for bringing back such a sweet memory.. Happy VTT, have a lovely weekend.

I love vintage books and could page through them for hours, looking at the quaint illustrations. And many times, I feel they are superior to what the kids are being taught out of today!

My Mom has that first reader too. And I swear we had the same spelling book her brother had but in the mid-late 60's!!! Our school system was a bit behind.

Thanks for sharing!
